New Math for Washington – Mr. President

The amazing events of this evening – the election of a Republican in the Massachusetts senate race  - Mr. Brown – to the US Senate is amazing.  In some ways it is much like the election of President Obama was a year ago – who is this guy?  our state/country can’t elect a man like that…. and so on.  The fact is we did then and the good folks in New England did now.

The question today is how will this President react – and how will the House and Senate leaders – who are both out of favor with the American people react.

And – finally what will this mean for passage of a Climate Bill by the United States.

Months ago we had expressed concern that the Administration was not focused enough on the Climate Bill.  We were worried that the nation was – possibly ready to pass some version of Climate legislation – but that focusing so much on Health Care at essentially the same time could put both at risk.  Well, sadly here were are – both are clearly at risk.

What should the President do?

In our opinion the President should stop spending so much time with Congressional D’s (he has them already!), he should start spending time with Congressional R’s (they would love it!).  There is no doubt that very large portions of Health Care change could be agreed to with large majorities in both houses – go there Mr. President.

In the same manor there are many points upon which a national energy bill could be crafted that get us moving in the right direction – again Mr. President  - do them…..

President Obama – you have a chance to show that you can listen, learn, and react to the American people in a way that shows “us” your respect.  Doing so will ensure you a more productive next 7 years in Washington – choosing not to do so could lead to a pretty unproductive next 3 years….

Best of luck!
