The EPA today challenged school districts, schools, students, and parents to focus on Energy Efficiency as the new school year is set to begin.
The EPA’s Energy Star Challange is for school districts to cut down wasted energy, saving both energy and dollars….
“Our schools are doing their best to prepare our children for the future, and now they can help make sure that future includes a clean, safe environment,” said EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson. “Taking the Energy Star Challenge will help participating districts cut down on their electricity bills. Money they would have spent on energy can go back into the classroom, where it really belongs.”
We think this is wonderful – and helps to remind us how much we can do at the local level to help…..what could be a better example of climate education then actual changes our children’s schools. It is an opportunity to educate the whole student body about energy audits, energy efficiency, energy costs, and energy savings….great – go for it!
