Obama – Climate issues slow but forward….

You have to wonder what life would have been like if the push for a global climate change agreement had taken place when the US had both a President and Congress ready to take action – and when our economy was growing rapidly – not shrinking, in the midst of a pretty harsh economic contraction…..would it make a difference?

The tiny steps that are being made now by the US, our European friends – and China and India all matter.  More – sooner would be better – of course.

But, what matters most is a framework – something that leaders from all around the globe start to see as the target limit.  It can be a cap on temperature rise, it can be a cut it CO2 out put by a date certain – whatever.  Something that we recognize as “the” target – even if the specifics of how to get there are unclear.

Think for a moment about how we planned to travel to the moon – we started almost from a standing start – and made it inside of 10 years.  Now we talk about going to Mars – not only talk – we are planning on it…..

It is good to have a President who “leads” on this topic.  It is a shame that we still argue internally as a nation – but we will push through those arguments – over the next few years….

Change has come (it just happens to be a slow roast….not rapid boil).

Dan, I can see that you are one of the people who totally “get it”. Change is not coming rapidly, it needs time and with that patience.
